is it right for a stallion to be placed above a gelding just because he "could" be used for breeding?

no way!!! what a con, maybe the stallion would have more preasence and more expresion in his action but if it came down to it i dnt fink the sex of the horse should matter at all! i know what you mean tho cuz i show my coloured gelding and stallions do always catch the judges eye! x

Stallions can always be put above geldings for sevral diffrent reasons.1.because they can breed with a mare.2.the aestheics of the stallion. The longish mane and tail and the wild look on thier face as if to say "I am the best out of all of you".3.The fact that they came from the wild can always win over a gelding. But stallions can also be extremly dangerous and cruel to other horses and humans. They don't like the fact that they like being caught from the wild and seperated from thier herd.If you have watched the movie Spirit then you will no what i am talking about. But you can watch it pon youtube. It is split into 8 diffrent parts. You just type in Spirit of the Cimmran. But you can look in books about horses called Stallions and geldings in Titmuss.

I believe that conformation and pace should come before if your horse is gelded or not even though there are alot more 'uses' for a stallion. But stallions are not all cruel to humans it all depends how they are traeted and how they have been brought up, depends on if they have respect for people or not. They are not cruel to other horses sither they are just acting in a natural stallion way.

maybe that is the case but stallions don''t like being pulled out of the wild and seperated from the herd.It cold be nice but very savage. But gradually grows on people.Think,if you were a stally being pulled out of the wild and out from your herd. How would you feel.Would you like the humans.

stallions can be impeckably behaved for the first 25 yrs of there life and then snap, not all stallions r 'wild'. if the paces and temprament arnt up to scrach then i cant c y they should be placed above a gelding as there is no point in breeding a mare with something that moves 'ok'.

If you are going to look at it like that then any horse would not like to 'pulled out of the wild' not just stallions?????? And I can assure you that most horses are now days bred at home or at studs and very few are taken from the wild and tamed

candy shud stop watching disney films and get sum hands on experiance, i dnt knw if things are differnt where you live but over here in the uk the only horses taken from herds are native ponies and most show horses are bred at a stud like stefaine said. you cannot sterotype a sex of horse, colt, filly, rig, gelding, mare, stallion any of them can be bad tempered or very well behaved.

any way i think we where talking about stallions being placed higer than geldings not what the lasest disney film is showing kids. i dont think there is any rule in any showing socity or breed socity that states a stallion should be placed above any other horses. in the UK any way...... i dont know about any other countries so if anyone else knows of any rule that states the judge has the right to discriminate against sex then please let me know.

also any herd animal removed from there herd would be stressed but not nessassarly nasty.

am sorry to start a mass debate! last year at bath and west my then 2yo (now 3yo) (bailey / pferde stud irish cream ) was pulled in 4th in the original line up. then after the judge looked underneath him and relised he was no longer entire he dropped us to 7th and pulled up2 stallions and a mare who hadnt preformed very well. when i enquired into this i was told that this was because they still had breeding potential. i no that i didnt deserve to loose that place.

thats very unfair, if it was a coloured class and had no prefernce to being a breeding type of class i find it hard to understand what reason the judge had to move you. i would be a bit anoyed if that happened to me purely for riding a gelding-- for all that judge knows your horse could of been to stud bred many foals and recently been gelded, then he would of been of use at stud.thats showing for you i supose.
