lets hear about your 1st ponies?

    are they still going??

    naughty?

    brilliant??

mine was an ace 14.1hh bay mare called Melody she was way too big for me and used to catch me out alot and run off but she made me learn to sit up and get on with it!!!
couldnt of asked for a better or more beautiful 1st pony !
we always said we would NEVER sell her.. sadly melody pass away after 3 years of owning her due to a brain tumor....but she gave me 3 years of love, fun, thrills and spills.....will never forget her what a lil star!!

My first pony was Jessie, a dartmoor, my grandmother gave her to me as a Christening present - not sure how much i rode her, but there is a picture somewhere sitting, maybe i was 2/3, but then Jessie had a foal, Rosie, cross bred, grew to 14 hh, did ride her, she was with us till her late 20s. Going to dig out some pictures now you've reminded me!

My first pony was a liver chestnut welsh mare called Beauty (Meadow Misstress). She was an absolutely fantastic pony and I learnt so much from her.

She was really friendly and if you had a treat and tapped your chin, she would nudge you gently on the cheek like she was giving you a kiss!

Beauty was an ex-gymkanana pony and was incredibly fast., we used to race the bigger horses on the yard and although she was ponly 12.2hh she could keep up with the biggest!!..she was also a fantastic jumper and could turn on a six-pence. Her only 'quirk' when riding was that she could stop dead when jumping...i dont just mean refusing, but stop dead. i.e flat out towards a jump and then suddenly there is no pony there!!!! Taught me to hold on!!

Sadly Beauty developed Lamenitas in later life (she was not overweight) and was eventually put down to this condition.

However, i will always remember her as the pretty, fiesty little mare who taught me to love horses!

My first pony Indi she went back to her old owners last year. she is 17 yrs old and 14.1 hh. and she was the sussex champition years ago and ex gymkanana. She is on one of my horse profiles still. I just mostly jumped and hacked out on her and highest we jumped together was 3ft 6. she taught me a lot she was crazy and liked walking sideways when you wanted her to stop and she loved racing other horses and she won every time.

    lol

Luckly for me i saw her this week and rode her even though she is way to small but she reconzied me and we went Galloping along the beach.

    lol

My first pony has a profile on here - Sanadres. I still have her and she's still my best friend. She's a 15h Standardbred, rising 12yo and i wouldnt trade her for the world. I got her as a green 3yo after failing as a harness racer and we have been through everything together. I'm going to keep her forever.

I love how you call your first pony such soppy names...like 'beauty' (sarah9)

My first pony was called Ross, he was really naughty and would never jump anything - i remember going to a pony club christmas jumping show and having to enter the class below the rest of my age group with my friends little brother...who had come as a christmas present in a wrapped box with his hands and head sticking out, i think i got eliminated and he fell off, it was really humiliating...

Not sure what happened to Ross we sold him to a hunting family somewhere...

oh, my first pony, or a little horse, was an arabian/Connemara. her name was Shangri-la. she was 16 when i started to ride her and she was fantastic! she was very kind and she was always happy to see you. I hade 1½ wonderful years with her. But unfortunately she had to be put in sleep becouse she had some problems with her knee. I still miss her .

My first pony was Polo, I have a profile of him on here, Major Polo. The naughtiest little man I have ever met, would do the same as sarah9's pony, flat out at a jump and then slam the brakes on. He really taught me how to stay on! He would also buck when you smacked him, buck when he got excited, buck when someone got too close...you get the idea! But god when he got his jumping boots on he was the best hunting pony anybody could ever ask for. We hunted in Bramham Park one Christmas Eve, and were jumping the 3 star cross country jumps-he's only 14.2!! Whenever I was upset, I used to run to his stable and he'd just stand there while I cuddled him and cried all over his neck. Bless him. He was also the fastest pony I've ever sat on, we could outrun any of the bigger horses out hunting, and we would get sent on messages coz people knew we'd do it quickly! The sort of fast where you feel like your tummy's ten miles behind you-awesome! Unfortunately, as he has a bad back and I couldn't stay stick thin forever, our old yard owners daughter started riding him. Then when I went away to college and didn't have time for him and couldn't afford to livery him at college, I decided to loan him out to Liv, and they get on really well, hunt all the time, and have a whale of a time! I still miss being able to pop up to the yard whenever I felt like it and just jump on and hoon round the field, but hey ho, that's life!! Either way, he's the best pony in the world!!
