American Quarter Horse: A SpaceForHorses network

The American Quarter Horse originates from the US and is the oldest surviving American horse breed. It was developed by the settlers of Virginia and the Carolinas by crossing local Chicasaw Indian Mustang ponies with Thoroughbred horses imported from the UK and was used in the first horse races of North America. The Quarter Horse was recognised in 1941 and is now the most popular breed in the US. The Quarter Horse has also been exported to many other countries.
