Askar is a really tough Irish bred horse - he is a thug! Chunky and stubborn, but amazingly capable. He came from Cavan Equestrian Centre (Ireland) to show jump. But although he has a really powerful big jump, he doesn't like showjumping! In the ring, he is maddeningly unpredictable, randomly stopping at the odd fence - might be a small one, might be a big one. But he has turned out to be a cracking hunter! Never stopping, and powering on, all day long. Show jumping was too fiddly for him. In four seasons hunting he has taught me how to jump without falling off - a great horse!
Achievements
In his short and relatively unsuccessful show jumping career he notched up around £200 - double clears at 1m 10. Jumps anything at home, and huge hedges (without touching) out hunting.
